About the workshop
Circuit Bending
What if a simple electronic circuit could become a musical instrument?
In this workshop, artists Xavier Gazon and Gauthier Déplaude invite participants to explore the unexpected sonic possibilities of electronic components and everyday objects.
Through an introduction to circuit bending, a practice that involves modifying electronic devices to make them produce unexpected sounds, participants discover the basics of electronics in a playful and experimental way.
By experimenting with circuits and components, everyone explores new sounds, plays with connections and discovers how to create sound using simple electronic devices. No previous technical knowledge is required: curiosity, experimentation and chance are at the heart of the creative process!
The small sound modules created during the workshop are then brought together to form a collective sound artwork, where individual creations come together and interact.
An experience at the crossroads of sound art, electronics and DIY, inviting everyone to discover the joy of making sound together!
Biography
Gauthier Déplaude & Xavier Gazon
GAUTHIER DEPLAUDE
Gauthier Déplaude is an electroacoustic artist based in Strasbourg. Through his sound creations, he explores our relationship with the world and the ways in which sound shapes our perception of our surroundings and ourselves.
His artistic practice focuses on resonance, the interactions between sound and space, and the role of listening in our everyday experiences. His projects invite audiences to pay closer attention to the soundscapes around us, revealing sometimes imperceptible dimensions of our environment.
In July 2024, he presented his performance Horloges électrique at the Nuits de la Pleine Lune festival. He subsequently developed Résonances, an artistic project that explores the connections between individuals, their environment and the sounds that permeate them.
XAVIER GAZON
Xavier Gazon is a Belgian sound artist, performer and electronic instrument designer based in Liège. Since the late 1990s, he has explored the boundaries between experimental music, kinetic sculpture and DIY technologies.
A pioneer of circuit bending in Europe, he repurposes electronic toys, instruments and everyday objects to reveal unexpected sounds. His installations and performances explore the interactions between sound, matter, movement and the environment, creating autonomous sound systems in which chance and unpredictability play a central role.
Founder of Wham Electronics, he also designs experimental electronic instruments and regularly leads workshops on circuit bending and sound creation. His work has been presented in Belgium and internationally.
