Mapping the Invisible

Carlos Martorell, aka Shoeg, is a Barcelona-based sound and visual artist probing the bond between humans and technology through custom instruments, motion sensors, 3D scans and game-engine visuals.

Jaume Vidal is an Amposta-based artist whose multidisciplinary practice explores territory, heritage, and activism for the Ebro Delta ecosystem and the role of women in agriculture.

Lauren Moffatt is an Australian artist based in Valencia working with immersive environments and experimental narrative, exploring connected bodies and digital/organic boundaries.

The augmented reality, generative sound, and sculpture project Mapping the Invisible explores aquatic ecosystems through the lens of new technologies and scientific data. Taking diatoms - essential yet almost imperceptible microscopic algae that perform 20% of photosynthesis on Earth - as its subject matter, the project builds an augmented reality and data sonification experience that amplifies the unseeable and unimaginable on a virtual stage. Mapping the Invisible invites its visitors to look at aquatic ecosystems like that of the Ebro Delta, or the Meuse-Sambre confluence of Namur, and what they mean for the broader ecology of our world, through different eyes
