    Vera van de Seyp

    Biography

Vera van de Seyp is a computational designer exploring generative design tools, computational typography, and finding the lunatic fringe of new technologies. She uses code to create tools and scripts that combine computation with graphic design. This results in self-improving installations, playful (sometimes wonky) websites, perpetually evolving typefaces, typographic tools, and textiles made with a hacked knitting machine. She works with clients like WIRED, the Serpentine Galleries, and Signal, gives talks and workshops, and organizes the creative coding symposium ITERATIONS.

    About the talk

    Vera van de Seyp

In her talk, Vera van de Seyp explores computation as a medium for graphic design. This does not always mean digital! Drawing on examples from her work, she shows how custom algorithms, when combined with craft, can create unexpected forms, behaviors, and sometimes even tangible outcomes.

What is needed to develop a practice in such a niche, and what does coding mean now that computers can objectively code better than she can? Vera invites you to embrace the weird, wonky, and wondrous of computational design.
