Lauren Moffatt

Lauren Moffatt builds immersive worlds where digital and organic life entangle. Combining algorithmic and hand-crafted processes, she turns bodies, ecosystems, and words into hybrid AR, VR, and sculptural works. Her worlds span nocturnal forests, speculative coral reefs, an island-body mapped from internal states, and an oversized diatom archive of the Ebro Delta.

In 2026, she was awarded the PHotoESPAÑA Digital Art Prize. Her work has been shown at Centre Pompidou (FR), Taipei Fine Arts Museum (TW), Matadero Madrid (ES) and Zabludowicz Collection (UK). She lives and works in Valencia (ES).

The project Mapping the Invisible asks what it means to make the imperceptible visible, and what responsibilities come with that act. Diatoms, the protagonists of the work, are single-celled algae. They are invisible to the naked eye, yet they are foundational to aquatic ecosystems and sensitive indicators of environmental health. This talk explores the project's central tension: translating organisms that exist at a microscopic scale into forms encountered at human or architectural scale through spatialised augmented reality, showing at the Namur Pavilion parallel to KIKK. Lauren Moffatt will discuss how questions of scale, visibility, and ecological attention shape the artistic decisions in the project, and how spatialised AR can function not just as spectacle but as a tool for drawing physical attention to overlooked, non-human forms of life essential to the ecosystems around us.
