Laura Civetti
Biography
Laura Civetti is a Tech designer and researcher focused on Computational design and digital fabrication for garment design. Believing in the use of data as material to design, her works interweave the human body, materials and additive fabrication to explore new design methodologies. Her works range from generative system patterns to biobased 3D-printed systems, reflecting a deep engagement with sustainable practices. Laura is also co-founder of Quasizeros, a startup dedicated to designing products through 3D printing organic materials.

About the talk
From pixel to material
From Pixel to Material explores a way of designing in which the digital is not simply a tool for representation, but becomes part of the process through which matter takes shape.
The talk explores the methodologies and experiments behind our design practice, bringing together computational design, new materials, 3D printing and digital fabrication. Through a selection of projects, I will show how data, algorithms and material properties can interact to generate forms and behaviours that would be difficult to achieve through traditional design processes.
The body, and therefore fashion design, represents a particularly fertile ground for this research: a complex system in constant motion, with which matter must inevitably interact. The garment becomes not only an object to be worn, but a laboratory for exploring new relationships between body, technology and material.
From Pixel to Material is ultimately a story about how technology can become a different way of thinking, and not simply a different way of producing, what we wear.
