About the talk
Fish String Theory: a fish that sings at sunset in the mediterranean sea
Every night in the Mediterranean Sea, a fish sings. The existence of this underwater sound has been known for millennia. Yet it was only five years ago that a team of scientists set out to find its author. When they did, they found not only a mysterious fish, but a vocal apparatus unlike any other, resembling a string instrument.
Antoine Bertin heard this sound for the first time a year ago. An artist and researcher at Interfacing the Ocean (ZHDK university) he designs ways of listening to the sea as a diver, from below, and develops approaches for communicating with aquatic life.
This talk takes you on an underwater listening journey at the intersection of music and interspecies communication.
