Play Testing Digital Transformation
About the panel
How artists can reshape the way we learn about technology
Digital education often focuses on learning how to use technology. But what if artists could help us learn how to question it, hack it, take it apart and imagine it differently?
Through Play Test!, KIKK, NODE Forum and Creative Coding Utrecht have been experimenting with a different approach to digital education: bringing artists, educators and youth workers together to develop new ways of engaging young people with technology.
From creative coding and DIY electronics to low-tech practices, reuse and permacomputing, the project considers artistic practice not simply as a way of making technology more attractive, but as a tool for learning through experimentation, critical thinking and play. Play Test! was conceived around three workshops in Belgium, Germany and the Netherlands, with methodologies designed to be transferable to youth workers and ultimately to young people.
For this conversation, Jeanne Charlotte Vogt (NODE), Melissa Van Der Lingen [CCU], Charlotte Benedetti (KIKK / Le Pavillon) and artist Marie Verdeil will share experiences from Play Test! and other projects to explore a broader question: can artists become a missing link between technological transformation and education?
